Located on Lansing, Iowa’s Main Street, just one block from the Mississippi River, McGarrity’s Inn on Main has been restored with careful attention to detail. The Inn was named after the photographer, J. R. “Dick” McGarrity, whose collection of glass plate negatives were found in the rafters when the building was being rehabilitated in 2002. McGarrity was a photographer for The Allamakee Journal & Lansing Mirror in the 1900’s and had a local business photographing families and river life as early as 1891. Hundreds of glass plate negatives were carefully restored and many adorn the suites and the entire collection was donated to University of Wisconsin, Murphy Library Special Collections.
